Night Porter / Maintenance

Black Horse Beamish is currently looking to recruit a Night Porter / Handy Person to be responsible for the hotel security, guest facilities and general maintenance/odd jobs based on site team between 11pm and 7am.

We are seeking a person who can perform a wide variety of repair and maintenance tasks. These can include things like minor electrical and plumbing fixes, joinery, painting and decorating, appliance repairs, and grounds maintenance.

In this role you will be responsible for overseeing and completion of general maintenance and decoration on site. You will also be responsible for coordinating any repairs required by external contractors for specialist works e.g. electrics, joinery, plumbing etc.

You will cover various duties throughout the night. From covering the reception to housekeeping and attending to our hotel guests needs, you will find that each night is never the same.

You will also be required to carry out safety checks and hotel inspections. The role will require confidence and commitment along with maturity and ability to follow direction and work efficiently during the night.

Role and responsibilities –

· To be able to deal with reasonable requests from guests in a professional manner

· Ensure guest complaints are dealt with in a professional and caring manner

· Completion of nightly general maintenance and repair checklist

· Conduct safety floor checks

· Checking guests in/out of bedrooms (training provided)

· Making beds / room moves when required

· Assisting with administration tasks

· Answering telephone

· To be computer literate

· Responsible for the cleaning of areas in the hotel including public and staff areas

· Responsible for cleaning other areas as per nightly checklist which may include set up of function rooms, breakfast area etc.

· Responsibility for the front entrance and outside of the hotel and ensure that it is clean and tidy at all times. This includes emptying bins, picking up rubbish etc.

· To have a full understanding of the hotels’ fire procedures to ensure safety of all staff and guests at all times.

· Good knowledge of safe working practices, ability to operate within Health and Safety Guidelines and good understanding of risk assessments and their application.


· Proven experience of providing repairs & maintenance services in a similar customer facing environment ideally within hospitality.

· The ability to work on their own initiative, as well as being capable of working as part of a team.

· A warm, friendly and approachable personality when dealing with fellow staff and guests.
